Roofline and tree lighting for the older, established Lake Forest village north of Green Valley Road in El Dorado Hills.
An older village near the lake
Lake Forest is one of the older villages in El Dorado Hills. It was laid out in the 1980s and 1990s on the part of Lake Hills Estates north of Green Valley Road, and Lake Forest Elementary sits inside it. Folsom Lake and the state recreation area are close. Compared with the newer villages to the south and east, the lots are more irregular, the streets curve with the ground, and the trees have had decades to grow.
Mature trees are the main job here
In a newer tract the roofline is the job and the tree is an add. In Lake Forest it is often the other way around. A front-yard tree that has been growing since the house was built takes a full spiral wrap: up the trunk and out the first tier of main limbs, with a set number of strands per foot so the coverage is even. We do not try to light the whole canopy of a large tree; the trunk and the structure limbs are what shows from the street. Shrubs that have grown into hedges get strand lights along the top.
Shade from large trees also changes the roofline. A roof under a canopy is darker, so a lit eave stands out more there than on an open lot.
Rooflines from the 1980s and 1990s
Lake Forest has a mix of single and two-story plans with hip-and-gable rooflines and standard gutters. C9 LED bulbs on commercial-grade line are clipped to the gutter lip or the shingle edge. Each eave and gable is a separate cut run so the line follows the actual roof edge. Tell us if the roof is composition shingle, tile or metal, since each takes its own clip, and a roof replaced in the last few years may not match the original.
Power is from an exterior outlet, with a timer at the plug. Older homes sometimes have only one front outlet, so we plan the runs around it.
Color, fixes, takedown, quote
Both bulb colors are stocked. Multicolor on a big tree with warm white on the eave is a common combination on older lots. If something goes out mid-season we repair it. Takedown is in January; storage until next year is available.
Lake Forest has an association. Check its seasonal-decoration rule and let us know the window. Quotes are free and usually done from the address, the number of stories, the roof type and the parts you want lit, plus a photo of the tree if it is large. Common questions in Lake Forest
How many strands does a large tree need?
It depends on trunk height and how many limbs you want lit. We count it from a photo and list it on the quote.
Can you light the tree but not the house?
Yes. Trees, roofline, stakes and shrubs are quoted as separate lines; take the ones you want.
Do you handle the takedown?
Yes, in January, and we can store the set until next season.
