Christmas light installation in Wilhaggin, the ranch and Streng home streets along the American River in Arden-Arcade.
Two kinds of houses on the same streets
Wilhaggin has two housing types that need different work. Most of the neighborhood is single-story ranch homes from the 1960s and 1970s on wide lots with mature trees and, in many back yards, a pool. Wilhaggin Estates, along American River Drive, Crondall Drive and North River Way, has about 150 Streng Bros. homes built from 1968 to 1972, including atrium models and flat or low-pitch roofs.
Ranch rooflines
A long, low ranch roof is the simplest line to light and the one that shows most clearly from the street. C9 LED bulbs clip to the gutter lip along the full front and around the sides. The line is cut at each corner so it stays tight to the roof. Composition shingle is the usual roof, with some tile and some shake replaced over the years. Each takes a different clip, and we match the clip to the roof. Garage fronts, porch beams and the fascia over the entry all take the same line.
Streng and other flat-roof homes
A flat or low-pitch roof has no gable to outline, so the lights go on the fascia edge around the whole house. The line reads as a clean rectangle. Many Streng homes have no gutter, so the clip goes to the fascia or the roof edge rather than a gutter lip. Atrium models have an interior court that can take a wrapped tree or hanging lights visible from the entry. Warm white fits the straight lines on these houses, and multicolor is there if you prefer it.
Trees, timers and the end of the season
The trees in Wilhaggin are large and old. We wrap trunks and main limbs in a spiral with even strand spacing, stopping at the height you set. Low shrubs get net lights, and walkways and driveways take stake lights.
Power comes from an exterior outlet with a timer at the plug. We install from early November through December. Anything that stops working during the season gets fixed. The lights come down in January, and we store them until next year if you want that. Quotes cost nothing, and most are done from the address, the roof type, the number of stories and a photo from the street. Call (916) 659-6549. Wilhaggin is about 15 miles west of Folsom. Common questions in Wilhaggin
My Streng home has no gutters. Can you still do the roofline?
Yes. The clip attaches to the fascia or the roof edge instead of a gutter lip. The line follows the edge of the roof the same way.
Do you light the back of the house by the pool?
Yes, if you want it. Most Wilhaggin jobs light the front and the sides that show from the street, and some add the patio roofline for the back yard.
Which color works on a flat-roof home?
Warm white is the common choice on the Streng and ranch homes here. Color usually goes in the trees, and either can go everywhere.
