Hillside roofline and tree lighting for Whitney Oaks homes above the Whitney Oaks Golf Club in Rocklin.
Steep lots, views and oaks
Whitney Oaks is a gated golf community in north Rocklin, established in 1997 around a Johnny Miller-designed course. The homes sit on hillside lots with rock outcroppings and mature oaks, and many have views toward the Sierra and the Sutter Buttes. Sections include the 55+ enclave of Springfield at Whitney Oaks and The Reserve, where lots run around an acre. The mix is single-story and two-story, with many custom and semi-custom plans.
What a hillside does to a lighting job
On a sloped lot the roofline is often higher on one side of the house than the other. A back eave that is 12 feet off the patio can be 25 feet off the grade at the far corner. We plan ladder placement from a photo before the crew comes, and some runs are done from the roof rather than from the ground. Two-story homes here often have stepped rooflines that follow the hill, so the line is cut per run and each gable or step is a separate piece. Nothing is draped across a gap.
If your roof is tile, we clip the C9 LED line to the gutter lip, not the tile, so nothing is lifted or drilled. On composition shingle the clip can go on the gutter lip or the shingle edge.
Oaks, driveways and the golf side
The oaks on these lots are the biggest lighting feature. A mature oak takes a spiral wrap on the trunk and main limbs; the strand count is set per tree and stated in the quote. Driveways on the steeper lots are long and sometimes curved, and stake lights along them mark the drive after dark. Homes that back onto the course can have the fairway elevation lit as well. Tell us which sides you want.
Gate access and the HOA window
Whitney Oaks is gated and so are some sections inside it. Leave the crew’s name with the gate or give us a code for both the install date and the takedown date. The community has an association. Check the association’s seasonal-decoration rule and we work inside that window.
Bulbs, timers and quotes
Bulbs come in warm white or multicolor. Warm white is the usual choice on the larger hillside homes. Every install runs through a timer at an exterior outlet. Anything that fails in December is fixed on a return visit, and takedown is in January with storage available.

Common questions in Whitney Oaks
My back eave is very high off the slope. Can you still light it?
In most cases yes. We check the photo first and decide whether the run is done from a ladder or from the roof.
Do the lights go up before the HOA window opens?
No. We schedule inside the association’s window for both install and removal.
