Lighting for the gated hillside villages of The Promontory, where sloped lots and lake-view elevations change how a roofline job is done.

Sloped lots and two faces of the house

The Promontory is a collection of gated villages on the ridge above Folsom Lake in western El Dorado Hills. Villages such as Bella Lago and Kalithea sit on the lake side of the ridge. Others back to greenbelt and Promontory Community Park. Many lots are stepped: a single or two-story front off the street and a taller back elevation facing the lake or the hills.

That matters for lighting. Most owners light the street side, the roofline the neighbors and the cul-de-sac see. Some also want the back roofline or a rear deck rail lit so it reads from the lake side. The two sides are quoted separately, since the back usually needs more ladder work and its own power point.

    The roofline, step by step

    • C9 LED bulbs on commercial-grade line, clipped to the gutter lip. On tile roofs the clip holds at the gutter and the eave tile, not through the tile.
    • Each gable, hip return and eave gets its own cut run. Line is cut to the roofline, not draped between high points.
    • Power from an exterior outlet, with a timer at the plug set for dusk on and the off time you want.
    • Windy ridge lots get extra clips at the corners and peaks.

Warm white and multicolor are both stocked. Warm white is the usual choice on the roofline here. Multicolor is more often used on a single tree or the entry columns.

Trees, driveways, gates and the quote

Street trees in The Promontory are mostly young, and the ornamental trees in front yards wrap well: a spiral up the trunk and out the main limbs with a set number of strands per foot. Lots that back to open space often have native oaks, which we wrap on the trunk and lower limbs. Stake lights follow the driveway or a curved walk. Bushes get strand or net lights.

Each village has its own gate. We need the code or a guest-list entry for install day and for takedown in January. The Promontory has an association; check the seasonal-decoration rule for your village and we work inside it.

There is no charge for a quote. Send the address, the number of stories on the street side, the roof type and which parts you want lit. For the back elevation, a photo from the yard helps. Call (916) 659-6549 or fill in the form below. Related pages: Lake Forest and Serrano.

    Common questions in The Promontory

Can you light the back of the house that faces the lake?
Yes. It is quoted as a separate elevation. It usually needs a taller ladder and its own outlet, so tell us which side you want when you ask for a quote.

Do you take the lights down and store them?
We take them down in January. We can keep your set until next November so nothing sits in the garage.

What if part of the roofline goes out in December?
Call and we come fix it. Mid-season repairs are part of the service.
