Two hours up Highway 50
South Lake Tahoe is about two hours from Folsom over Highway 50 and Echo Summit, and in December the drive depends on chain controls. We do not run single trips. Installs in South Lake Tahoe are scheduled in blocks, several homes on the same days, with the first block in early November before the snowpack builds. Book early so your home lands in a block. Takedown follows the same pattern in January. If a storm closes the pass on a scheduled day, the block moves to the next clear day and we call you.
Snow loads and metal roofs change how lights are clipped
Roofs in the Tahoe basin are built for heavy snow, and many of them are standing-seam metal so the snow slides off. Sliding snow takes anything clipped to the roof edge with it. So in South Lake Tahoe we do not clip C9 line to the drip edge the way we do in the valley. The line goes on the fascia board below the metal, or on the underside of the eave, where a roof slide passes over it.
Composition shingle roofs here get the same treatment. Ice forms at the eave, and a strand frozen into an ice dam breaks when the dam lets go. Keeping the line on the fascia avoids that.
Deck railings, log posts and entry gables are good lighting lines in Tahoe because they sit under cover. Tall pines and firs are wrapped on the trunk only, to a reachable height.
Second homes and rentals
Many South Lake Tahoe homes are second homes or short-term rentals. You do not need to be there. Send the address, a few photos, the roof type and which parts you want lit, and tell us where the exterior outlet is. We install, set a timer at the plug, and send you a photo of the finished lights. Guests see the lights without touching anything.
If a strand goes out mid-season, we fold the fix into the next block up the hill. Takedown is in January and we can store your lights in Folsom until next November.

How much snow can be on the roof when you install?
We install before the snowpack sets and work from ladders on cleared ground. If the roof edge is already iced, we light the fascia, railings and trees and skip the roof edge.
Can you install at a rental between guest stays?
Yes. Give us the gap and the outlet details. The crew does not need to enter the house.
Will the lights hold up in a Tahoe winter?
C9 LED bulbs on commercial-grade line are made for outdoor cold and wet. Placement under the eave keeps them out of the sliding snow.
