Los Lagos is a 24-hour guard-gated community in Granite Bay, entered from Auburn Folsom Road by way of Los Lagos Circle South. Lots run from about half an acre to several acres; the larger parcels sit on Vista De Lago Court and in The Boulders section. Homes are custom, built from the late 1980s through the 2000s, some in a Mediterranean style, and several back to association green space or the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. The community has three lakes, tennis courts and walking trails.

On a Los Lagos lot the driveway and the trees can be a bigger job than the house.

• Driveways. Stake lights along a long drive run from the street to the garage and are powered from more than one outlet, each with its own timer on the same schedule.
• Oaks. Mature oaks are the main feature of many lots. We wrap the trunk and the main structure limbs in a spiral with a set number of strands and stop where the limbs thin.
• Entry pillars and fence. A gated driveway entry and the fence run along the road frontage take the same C9 line, clipped to the top rail or cap.

Homes here range from tall single-story to full two-story with high plate heights. C9 LED bulbs on commercial-grade line are clipped at the gutter lip, the shingle edge or the eave tile, depending on the roof. Nothing is drilled through tile. Every peak, hip and return is its own cut run so the line sits on the edge rather than sagging between high points. Rear elevations facing a lake or the open space can be lit as a separate run.

Warm white is the usual choice on the estates here. Multicolor is available and more often goes on one tree or along the driveway. Timers at each plug bring everything on at dusk. If a run fails mid-season we fix it.

We need to be on the guest list at the gate for the install and again for the January takedown. Los Lagos has an association; check its seasonal-decoration rule and give us the window. Storage of your lights until next season is available.
