Arden Oaks is built on large lots by rule. Sacramento County zoning for the neighborhood sets a minimum lot size of 30,000 square feet and a minimum frontage of 110 feet. In practice many lots on streets such as Winding Creek Road and Maple Glen Road run from three-quarters of an acre to about two acres. Houses are custom, built from the 1950s onward, single-story and two-story, with long driveways, mature oaks and a number of gated entries.

Outlets on an estate lot can be a long way from where the lights go. We map each exterior outlet first, run commercial-grade line from the closest one to each zone and set a timer at the plug so the whole property comes on and goes off together.
Rooflines, oaks and color
Custom homes here have long rooflines with many corners. C9 LED bulbs clip to the gutter lip or shingle edge, and the line is cut at each corner and peak so it follows the roof outline instead of hanging in a curve. Tile roofs get a tile clip under the first course. Two-story sections take the line at both eave heights.
